TECAR Therapy

Use of TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) machine physiotherapy explained

What is Tecar Therapy?

TECAR (Transfer of Energy Capacitive and Resistive) therapy is an advanced physiotherapy treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to speed up natural healing. It reduces pain, improves blood circulation, stimulates tissues, and promotes faster recovery in a non-invasive and comfortable way.

Applications of Therapy Work?

  • Sports injuries (muscle tears, sprains, strains)
  • Knee osteoarthritis & chronic knee pain
  • Shoulder injuries – rotator cuff, frozen shoulder
  • Sciatica & lower back pain
  • Tendonitis & bursitis
  • Post-fracture rehabilitation
  • Post-surgery recovery
  • Joint stiffness & muscle spasms

How It Works

TECAR delivers deep warmth and cellular stimulation to muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
It has two modes:

  • Capacitive mode: Works on soft tissues (muscles, lymphatic system)

  • Resistive mode: Works on dense tissues (bones, tendons, joints, ligaments)

Benefits of TECAR

  • Immediate pain relief
  • Reduces inflammation & edema
  • Improves mobility & flexibility
  • Boosts blood circulation
  • Faster tissue healing
  • Enhances muscle recovery
  • Safe & non-invasive

Why TECAR in Physiotherapy?

It allows faster rehabilitation with less discomfort compared to traditional methods, making it ideal for athletes, chronic pain patients, and post-surgical recovery.

What to Expect During a Session?

Your therapist will begin with a quick assessment followed by placement of electrodes on the skin. When the machine starts, you will feel a light vibration or tingling sensation this means the therapy is working. The intensity is always kept at a level that feels comfortable for you. The session lasts around 15 to 30 minutes depending on the severity of pain. After therapy, your physiotherapist may guide you with simple movements or exercises that support your recovery.

Contraindications

  • Not recommended for:
  • Pregnancy
  • Patients with pacemakers or metal implants
